Living Nature and Animal Experiences for children in Degerfors

The Cultural Center Berget, with its activities and through its special cultural heritage, is a living meeting place for people. We want to create interest and conditions for children and young people to discover the wealth that Berget and its surroundings offer through the project. In particular, we want to reach out to many of the new Swedes who have become a part of our society. Immigrant children and their families often lack knowledge about Sweden's nature and wildlife. We want to create opportunities for animal and nature experiences through integration and popular education work, with a special focus on immigrant families.

This is what we want to do

• Inspirational trip and study visit for Berget's board and two caretakers to Mariebergsskogen in Karlstad and Hallagården in Vintrosa.
• Adaptation of our animal enclosures with sluice entrances so that the animals do not escape when the animal keepers and groups of visitors are to enter the animals.
• Establish a living popular education place/rest area inside the animal enclosure where the animal keepers, together with children and families, can sit and tell about the animals and life in the animal enclosures.

Many children from other cultures are unaccustomed to interacting with animals and also to being outdoors in nature. We want to create interest and conditions for children and young people to discover the wealth that Berget and its surroundings offer through the project.
