What is LEADER?
Leader is a working method that focuses on developing rural areas. The method has existed within the EU since 1991. The word itself is an abbreviation of the French ”Liaisons Entre Actions de Développement de l'Économie Rurale,” which loosely translated means ”cooperative actions to strengthen the rural economy.”.
Leader is about working with development work, bottom-up perspective, innovation, collaboration, and network building. The method is based on a three-partnership between public actors, business, and the non-profit sector. This three-partnership is entrusted to decide on the allocation of project support for rural areas through a LAG group based on a jointly developed development strategy.
What is LAG?
LEADER is a non-profit association whose board is called LAG, Local Action Group. So, the board.
What is Mellansjölandet?
Mellansjölandet is a Leader area consisting of Askersund, Degerfors, Hallsberg, Karlskoga, Kumla, Laxå, Lekeberg, and Örebro municipality. LEADER Mellansjölandet is run by a non-profit association with the same name.
What can you apply for project support for??
It is stated in the intervention areas in LEADER Mellansjölandet's development strategy.
Can you apply for support for investments?
Yes, but of course, the leader method must be used, and the investment must lead to new activities in the village.
When can you apply?
Anytime. However, applications are processed in rounds, about five per year, and the last submission date for the rounds is indicated on the homepage.
Where does the money for the projects come from?
The money for project support comes from the EU, the Swedish state, Region Örebro County, and from the municipalities that are part of the leader area.
Who can become a member of the association and how do you become one?
The association is open to businesses, associations, and other organizations within the geographical area. You become a member by submitting a membership application. The annual fee is 100 SEK. Membership gives you information and influence over LEADER Mellansjölandet's work. You also get to participate in our pleasant annual meeting.
