Kumla Dalhalla – choir concert

In Hällabrottet east of Kumla, the stone quarry has been of great importance since the Middle Ages. The limestone quarries were initially owned by the Crown but transitioned to private ownership in the early 1800s – Yxhult stone cutting. The limestone was used both for the production of building stones and for burning limestone for masonry work as well as for sculptural stone art in constructions.

The municipality's cultural department sees great potential in this unique place. A perfect place to create an event arena in the long term and test the site with a spring concert in 2019. The quarry has very good acoustics and is perfectly arranged for an event of this kind. The choir concert that is planned is Volund, a folk music drama with choir, music, and reciter. The drama about the smith Volund is one of the oldest songs in the Icelandic Edda. The choir leader is Ida Blomqvist, with many years of choir leadership experience.
